HBC-472 Hop Profile (Experimental Hop)

Came to us from Select Botanicals Group's Hop Breeding Company (HBC) in the Yakima Valley. It is a wild American hop that is unlike any other. It is a subspecies of hop called neomexicanus and is the result of open pollination. HBC-472's unique character is commonly described as "coconut and woody". This is predominantly the result of a higher-than-usual Caryophyllene content that comprises about 30% of total oils. Test batches of aggressively-hopped IPAs lent big "citrus and grapefruit aromas, but a fascinating whiskey/bourbon and coconut character break into the background." This oak and coconut becomes more pronounced in darker malt-centric styles.

Incredibly interesting hop! April 14, 2017

I made a one gallon batch of yoopers oatmeal stout (from homebrewtalk.com) and added an ounce of this hop over several late and post boil additions.
I have only tasted the sample as I was packaging but it has incredible oak and coconut flavors. Better than I've ever been able to get with actual coconut! Really interesting. Highly recommend

Bourbon and oak oh my. April 1, 2017
Reviewer: Matthew Vaught from Fresno, CA United States
So I did a single hopped stout with this hop to see what flavors would come out. After tranfering to keg today and sampling some off a gravity sample I was pretty shocked. I got lots of oak and bourbon flavors with subtle hints of coconut from just the hop. I recommend everyone to try this while they still have it in stock! Cheers!
