Great Deal August 2, 2016

I was shopping around for hops extract for a Pliney the Younger recipe that called for 40mL for 5 gallons. This can seemed like the best deal. I purchased 50 5mL syringes and caps for ~$15 on ebay. I heated up the can in a pot of water and filled up 34 of the syringes!!! That's 170mL of extract in case you're wondering how much is in 100g. The extract smells very good and I'm sure the recipe will be good too. Good idea to buy and share with friends.

Only way to reproduce some commercial examples November 6, 2013

Did some research on this product and found it's basically what another online HBS sells as a HopShot.
Did my research to calculate IBUs and actually found that 20 ml per 10 gallons boiled for 60 minutes gives me amount 60 IBUs. Taste test confirmed as about right.
I ordered syringes off of eBay, put the tin can in a pan with hot water and filled the syringes with 10 ml of extract. Extract is like tar unless slightly heated.
Really adds a unique hop character to my IPAs. Lots of flavor comes through. I tried adding later in the boil and wasn't as impressed. For my recipes I add the hop extract at 60 minutes and traditional leaf or pellet hops at 5 minutes, flame out, and dry hopping.
